Civil (Landlord-Tenant)

The Civil Unit: Provide legal assistance to low income persons with housing problems, including eviction proceedings and other landlord-tenant problems, Section 8 subsidy and public housing issues.

Housing Unit (Nassau County): Assists low-income tenants facing eviction, primarily from federally subsidized or rent stabilized housing. We also assist low-income households challenging denials or termination from federal housing programs, including “Section 8”, in administrative hearings and through affirmative litigation in State Supreme Court or in Federal District Court. We work in conjunction with our Volunteer Lawyer Project’s in-court program.

The units are funded by various federal, state, and local funding sources.
