Many staff members are outstanding experts in their field and have been recognized at a state and national level for the quality and critical importance of their work.
We are proud to announce that Victoria Osk, Managing Attorney at Nassau Suffolk Law Services, is a recipient of the Community Service Award presented by Thursdays Child. Vicky was honored at their Spring Champagne Gala held on June 14, 2012 at Flowerfields Celebration. Congratulations Vicky!

Congratulations to Sheila Johnson, Law Services Director of Development and Government Affairs for receiving the prestigious Public Service Award from Touro’s Black Law Students Association. At this special event, Sheila was also presented with a Proclamation from the Town of Brookhaven Advisory Council member, Valerie Cartwright, Esq.

The Suffolk County Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts held an awards ceremony for Women’s History Month. This very special event celebrates women who have made significant contributions to providing access to justice and pro bono services. Congratulations to our very own Maria Dosso, Director of Communications & Volunteer Services for this very special acknowledgment!

In April, 2011, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano presented  a proclamation to our legal staff for their dedicated work in our Protection and Advocacy Projects which provide legal assistance to developmentally disabled individuals (PADD) as well as legal assistance in equal opportunity and discrimination cases to physically disabled individuals (PAIR)

Suffolk County Advisory Board on Child Protection and the Suffolk County Executive's Task Force to Prevent Family Violence honors Larry Tuthill as a champion for children and families living in Suffolk.

Suffolk County Minority Health Summit honored Denise Snow for her “dedication, commitment and support of community based initiatives and minority health improvement projects in Suffolk,” October 2008.

Jeffrey A. Seigel, Executive Director of Nassau Suffolk Law Services was honored with the Suffolk County Martin Luther King. Jr. Commission Award on January 17, 2009. He received the award on behalf of Nassau Suffolk Law Services Committee, Inc.


One of Our Most Dedicated Volunteer Attorneys Named New York State Pro Bono Attorney of the Year!
Herb Harris was named the New York State Pro Bono Attorney of the Year for the Tenth Judicial District (Nassau and Suffolk Counties). The award was presented to him at the Law Day Luncheon by Chief Justice Judith Kaye, 2003.

Meredith Nadler was one of ten attorneys nationally honored with the NAACP’s Foot Soldiers in the Sand Award, July 2009.

Nassau Suffolk Law Services was honored by the Islip Town Branch of the NAACP for its “work to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination, December 2009.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, Greater New York City Affiliate honored the PLAN Project staff, Denise Snow and Kelly Murray, in recognition of the legal assistance that the Project provides to hundreds of individuals affected by cancer, May 2009.

Beth Wickey, Director of Program and Contract Administration, was honored by Long Island Housing Services for her distinguished service on LIHS’s Board of Directors for twenty two years, working for fair housing and the elimination of unlawful housing discrimination, April 2010.

Douglas Ruff was the recipient of the prestigious Denison Ray award presented by the New York State Bar Association for his extraordinary commitment as a public service attorney providing zealous and skilled representation to low income and disadvantaged clients. Law Services was also the recipient of a cash grant as a result of this award, 1995.
